HCL's initiatives on phasing out PVC & BFR,Antimony,Beryllium,Phthalates in product manufacturing
As per our last ratings (September 2010), 29% of our product line complies with the criterion. In line with our demonstrated position and continued commitment to greener products, as of August 2011 our volume selling products are already in the process of complying with the newer criteria as follows:
HCL can manufacture most of its desktop free of PVC, BFR based on specific product demand as per the B2C and B2B customer.
On 9th January 2010, HCL Infosystems launched its PVC & BFR free computer model,
Series 40 laptop (which is both PVC & BFR free except the power-adaptor).
Within 6 months of launching our first PVC-BFR Free laptops, we went on to launch 3 more models which were PVC-BFR Free.
Today in addition to series 40 range, series 44 and series 54 range laptops are also PVC-BFR Free except the power-chord.
On 5th June 2010, HCL Infosystems launched Infiniti M A330 Pro, the first PVC-BFR free Desktop computer from HCL stable.
At present 29% of our overall range of products is PVC and BFR free. HCL is working towards the road map of making entire product range PVC and BFR free. Please visit this page from time to time to see our progress on this front.
The Infiniti M A330 Pro, Series 40, Series 44 and Series 54 computers meet the RoHS 2.0 standards, laid down by the European environmental-safety standards, and are future-ready for the environmentally-conscious global consumer. The notebooks are also blessed with the unique HCL Balanced Power Theme which enables auto shutdown during idle period. The notebook becomes greener with Advanced Thermal Engineering which minimizes the heat-generation capacity. These features increase the battery back-up of the notebook, thus making a step towards conserving energy.
Further, series 40, series 44 and series 54 have received a warm welcome from the Corporate sector. Within a few days of launching the product, we have received more-than-expected orders for our ME series 40 notebook and series 54 notebook.
These steps ensure that we are right on our path of achieving 100% PVC and BFR Free product line by the set deadline of 31st December, 2012.

On 5th June 2010, on the occasion of World Environment Day, HCL unveiled HCL ME series 54 laptop, India's First Laptop which is not only PVC and BFR Free, but is also free of Antimony and Beryllium.
Our Ecosafe team was proactively working with vendors towards Antimony and Beryllium elimination from our Products and we are happy to announce that we have brought out our first line of Antimony and Beryllium free laptops much ahead of our defined deadline of 31st December 2012.
This makes 21% of our product range Antimony and Beryllium free (in addition to RoHS, PVC and BFR Free). In the time to come, we will keep working in this direction and will update the progress from time to time on this page.
So far, we have contacted 45 suppliers, out of which 43 have responded, and finally, communication was sent to 30 vendors with target time-lines for PVC and/or BFR elimination from their supply-items.

In response to this, we received affirmative replies from 15 suppliers. 5 among them provided us a PVC free component/part, 7 suppliers provided us with a component/part which was both PVC & BFR free, and 3 among them provided us a BFR free component/part.
