HCL Infosystems Ltd., India’s premier information enabler, leading ICT System Integrator and Distribution Company has been awarded one of the most prestigious contracts for establishing the Punjab State Wide Area Network (PAWAN). HCL’s specialized expertise in the e-governance vertical made it the primary choice for setting up this backbone infrastructure by Government of Punjab (GOP).

 

The agreement was signed in the presence of Shri Adesh Partap Singh Kairon, Cabinet Minister for Food & Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs & Information Technology. Mr. Narinderjeet Singh, IAS, Secretary Information Technology & Mr. Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman & CEO, HCL Infosystems were also present on the occasion. Director Information Technology Department Mr. Rakesh Verma, IAS, signed the agreement on behalf of Govt. of Punjab while Mr. S.K. Sharma, Associate Vice President, HCL Infosystems signed on behalf of the company.

 

On the occasion of the signing of the contract Shri Adesh Partap Singh Kairon, Cabinet Minister for Food & Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs & Information Technology, Government of Punjab said “The Punjab State Wide Area Network shall act as “Information Super Highway” for data transfer between offices at State, District, Sub-Divisions and Block levels. This project shall establish the backbone network for data, voice and video communications throughout the state, enabling more efficient citizen centric services to the people across the state.”

With the implementation of Project PAWAN, HCL Infosystems will connect Government bodies from approximately 179 blocks across 20 districts in Punjab putting the state on the fast track towards IT proficiency. The Network for Punjab Government will be an Integrated, fully manageable network enabling Citizen Services and effective e-governance that is key for any State’s development.

 

The State Government’s commitment to improve services to its citizens through efficient and transparent administration is further strengthened with this announcement.

 

This Wide Area Network (WAN), envisaged as the core network for data, voice and video communications throughout the State, will act as a catalyst for IT development in the state and supporting IT solutions for effective e-governance.

 

HCL as the pioneer in IT hardware technology and Systems Integration will provide solutions to enable seamless end to end connectivity for all government offices across Punjab and facilitate Converged Network Services (Data/Voice/video) and Security Services to the state government for effective e-governance.

 

Project PAWAN will cater to the information communication requirements of the entire state government and its departments. It will help provide connectivity within the state administration thereby making the Government more adept by enabling electronic transactions and provide efficient service management by linking up operations at not just the State and District level but seeping deep into the Block level.
