HCL Infosystems Ltd., India’s premier hardware, services and ICT Systems Integration and Distribution Company today announced the acquisition of Edurix, a part of Attano Media and Education Private Ltd. Edurix designs and implements content for the K-12 education segment. The business transfer between HCL Infosystems and Attano has been completed and included transfer of all fixed assets, IPR and the Human Resources of Edurix. The acquisition by HCL Infosystems brings in-house content capability to its education & learning division, HCL Learning. The acquisition would supplement HCL Learning’s current offerings across the various segments – K-12, Higher Education and its Career Development Centre (CDC). HCL Learning would also have the flexibility to develop and customize content for tablets, dongles and online platforms.

 

Speaking about the deal, Mr. Anand Ekambaram, Senior VP, HCL Infosystems Ltd & Head, HCL Learning said, “HCL Learning is presently in a high growth phase and is poised for greater expansion. The acquisition of Edurix would further strengthen our content capabilities for the K-12 segment and bolster our offerings across different platforms and devices. Apart from strengthening its operations in India, the acquisition will facilitate HCL Learning’s access to international markets and supplement growth in emerging markets like South East Asia, Middle East and Africa. Edurix has more than 150 employees in its two offices in Mumbai and Chennai. The integration of the Edurix’s business and teams with HCL Infosystems are currently underway.

 

Availability of rich content is one of the key drivers today in the adoption of technology enabled Learning solutions by individuals and educational institutes. HCL Learning, through this acquisition is poised for further growth and will be able to provide a more interactive and engaging learning environment including rich additional content such as game based or outcome based learning. The business has also been registering good growth and booked over 3300 classrooms for its Digischool solutions in the quarter (January – March 2012), which represents growth of 300% QoQ in terms of classrooms. In April 2012 the business also launched two tablet versions of the innovative MyEduTab – K12 and Higher Education versions for schools and colleges respectively. MyEduTab is “Education on the Move”, comes along with high quality engaging content and enables students, teachers & parents to connect, collaborate and share information as well as content over the Cloud.
