HCL Infosystems, India’s premier information enabling company, maintained its number one position in the Desktop PC segment for the year 2003. According to the recent IDC report, HCL leads the market ahead of the two MNCs, with a market share of 10.6 %, up from 9.3 % for quarter of July-September 2003 to October – December 2003. HCL also tops the total Desktop PC sales for year 2003, garnering a market share of 9.2 %, up from 7 % for year 2002.

It will be our endeavour to implement an aggressive marketing strategy not just to maintain the number one position in the segment, but to grow further”.

 

When comparing quarter four of 2002 to quarter four of 2003, HCL’s market share increased to 10.6 % from 6.8 %, a growth of whopping 88 %. In this period, HCL sold 71,874 units, 10 % higher than the nearest MNC competitor.

 

In commercial PC segment, which comprises of 68 % of total Desktop PC market, HCL sold almost 60,000 units. In this segment, HCL’s market share increased from 8.5 % in 2002 to 11.2 % in 2003. Comparing quarter four of 2002 with quarter four of 2003, HCL registered a massive growth of 97.6 % in market share. The sales came mainly through its leading PC brand, ‘Infiniti’.

 

“We have been rated as number one PC manufacturer for the third consecutive year in the commercial PC segment by IDC. The reports from industry experts affirm the vast potential we have to spread the power of computing across the length and breath of the country”, concluded Mr Paul.

 

Some of the prestigious orders bagged by HCL include, AP Land Records, Hyderabad; Commercial Taxes, Kerala; Tamil Nadu Urban Development Project, Chennai and Tata Teleservices. The company also received orders for large System Integration projects from BSNL Chandigarh, Haryana Police, Punjab National Bank, BSNL (Patiala), ITC (Kolkata), Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (AMTRON), Satyam Info Ltd, Canara Bank and Asian Paints.

 

Impressive growth and performance of HCL is attributed to the technological innovations introduced by the domestic IT major in its PCs, apart from other factors. On the commercial PC front, HCL launched the ‘Maximum Value Campaign’, for its ‘Infiniti’ brand, which contributed to the performance in sales to the large business segment and in addition maintained its lead in sales to Government sector. HCL recently launched the HCL Beanstalk Media Center PC, which makes it the first Indian brand to do so. The PC has been specially developed by HCL Insys, coupling with the newly designed interface of Microsoft Windows XP media center edition, to completely revolutionise digital entertainment in India.
